Pvt. US Army WWI. Married Veeda Meranda, father of 4 sons. LeRoy (my dad), Charles (Viv), Calvin (Cal) and Don. Veeda preceeded him in death when the boys were very young. She died of food poisoning. Charles was so sick he didn't get to go to her funeral, as he was still in the hospital.
He was known as Charlie to those that were his friends. He worked the RR and his home was a rail road coboose car.
Grandpa was an onery old man some would say but if you were the youngest, i was, he was the best.
My mom use to tell me about before I was born my sister, just older than me got the meseales very bad, to the point she had to stay in a darken room for 2 weeks. My mom had six children and me on the way she could not stay in the room with her. But my grandpa did. He stayed in that room with a two year old and kept her happy in the dark for two weeks, not an easy thing to do, but that was my grandpa. We used to go on walks to the river and watch the clouds. he took me on train trips, and to the ocean at santa cruz, california.
