COLUMBUS, GA— Mary Jo Avery, 83, died on November 5, 2005 at The Hamilton House in Columbus. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Brad Hicks officiating. A private interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus. Mrs. Avery was born on November 28, 1921 in Dalton, GA, the daughter of the late Grady Murphy and Ruby Whitson Murphy. Mrs. Avery graduated high school in McDonough, GA, and moved to Columbus in 1939 where she still resided with her husband, Henry H. Avery. She was active in the Women in Construction Organization, and retired after 25 years with architects, Pound, Flowers, and Dedwylder, as an Office Manager. Mrs. Avery is survived by her husband, Henry H. Avery; her daughter, Brenda Price of Columbus; her son, John Gaylor of Smiths Station, AL; stepson and wife, Dan and Pat Avery of Trumbull, Connecticut; grandson, Bill Price; granddaughter, Amy Marshall; step granddaughters, Susan Jarboe, and Shannon Avery; great grandsons, Mac Price and Gabe Marshall; as well as other cousins and friends. Mrs. Avery was a great lover of animals and in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Muscogee County Animal Humane Society. A special thank you to the staff at The Hamilton House and St. Francis Hospital for their tender care of our beloved wife and mother.
