Rest in peace, Mother. Thank you for your service to humanity and for helping all the soldiers. How sweet it must have been for them to see your face after so much horror. Many owed their life to you; while others passed into God's care with some comfort due to your care. God bless you!

"Mother" Bickerdyke you were the most courageous woman/nurse during the most horrendous Civil War. Thank you for saving the many men with your hard work, medical knowledge and kindness. You were a true Angel on the many gory battlefields.

When asked, after the Battle of Shiloh, from whom she had authority to tend to wounded soldiers, she answered, "I have received my authority from the Lord God Almighty. Have you any higher authority? Stand aside." What a woman she was!

"Mother" Bickerdyke is my heroine of the Civil War for her moral and physical courage and immense compassion. It's fitting that through her Ball lineage she's related to Martha Washington. Bickerdyke is featured as herself in my work of fiction _South Under a Prairie Sky: The Journal of Nell Churchill, US Army Nurse & Scout_ (Xlibris Corp. 1-888-795-4274j. My mother was from Kirkwood, IL about 15 miles from Galesburg.C. Kay Larson

Dear "Mother",God bless you for the many lives that were saved because you had the tenacity and knowledge to set forth standards of sanitation and cleanlyness that saved many a life.Someone once witnessed you dress down General Sherman over things she wanted done with the care or lack there of of the sick and wounded .The visitor remarked to Gen.Sherman,"How can you allow that woman to speak to you in such a manner?".Sherman responded,"She out ranks me".God bless you forever dear angel lady.
