You either lied, or were lied to, about Sally, but I'll admit that we'll never settle that one. And, yes, he had made the mistake of using you to tell the truth about Hamilton. He was, indeed, guilty of improper attentions to Betsey Walker. That was publicized for political purposes by Light Horse Harry Lee, but the kernal of truth is there. [The Walker marriage survived]. I did not realize you were at St. John's, though I should have...it was the only graveyard in Richmond at the time. Jefferson was not without sin, but his guilt with Sally is by no means proven.
