Professional Hockey Player. He began his professional hockey career with his hometown Canadian Soo Pros in 1907 to 1908. McNamara moved east the following season to join the Montreal Shamrocks (1908 to 1909). He played for Cobalt in the National Hockey Association's first season, 1909 to 1910. After playing in in the OPHL for several years, he spent rest of his hockey career in the NHA and its successor, the National Hockey League. He split time between Toronto Tecumsehs/Ontarios/Shamrocks and the 228th Battalion team (1912 to 1915, 1916 to 1917), and the Montreal Canadiens (1915 to 1916, 1919 to 1920). Howard McNamara won a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1916, serving as their captain. He enlisted in the latter part of World War I, rising from Lieutenant to Major. After his hockey career ended, hehelped found the McNamara Construction Company with George and Harold McNamara. The McNamara brothers turned the firm into one of the most prosperous construction companies in eastern Canada.
