Comemorating your bravery in defending the Union during the Civil War especially noted during this year of the sesquicentennial. We are proud of your illustrious wartime record and of the USS Gettysburg's participation in the (ultimately) successful attempts to recapture Fort Fisher. 146 years ago this month, you were gravely injured leading an assault group on the sea face of Ft Fisher. Today, we honor your personal sacrifice to protect the freedoms of all Americans and we honor the sacrifices of the 12 casualties from that Jan 15, 1865 battle.
