Shawnee resident Bartus Barnhill, 87, died Thursday, Aug.21,2008, in Shawnee. He wa born on Sept.8, 1920, to Ray and Elise Barnhill in Norman. He was in the United States Army.
He married Bertha Williams and worked for Quality Control Engine Tester at Tinker Air Force Base. He was the President of NARFE Chapter 1983-1987, member of the LDS Family History Center for several years, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bartus served as a home teacher to many families since 1963 and formed many lasting friendships.he served on many church assignments at Walfare Farms and the Cannery/Bishops Storehouse.He served in several church positions:High Group Leader several times,Explorer Leader in Bihoprics. He was always the stand by helper in the ward if anyone ever needed help with anything. He loved to serve others just as our Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother:C.E. Barnhill, one sister, Della Prince,two great-grandchildren, and one stepson, Elmer Carr.
Servivors include seven children, Vivian and Roger Yandell of Shawnee, Harrison and Mary Barnhill of Valiant, Victor and Amber Barnill of Georgia, Gerald and Becy Barnhill of Utah, Paula and Bert Swenson of Utah, Brenda and russell Poter of Utah and Charlene and Brad Orton of Utah; one stepson Dale Mayberry of Noble; 32 grandchildren,31 great-grandchildren,two great-great grandchildren, two brothers,Truman Barnhill and Elizabeth of Norman, Else and George Shaw Moore and cherry and Terry Kirshner Norman;numerous nieces,nephews,outher family and friends.
The Family will receive friends from 5 to6 today at Walker Funeral Service.
Service will be 1 p.m.Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,Shawnee Ward,1501 E. Independence with Bishop Michael Meyers officiating. Burial will be at Denver Cemetery, Norman.
