Capt. McVay got a very raw deal thanks to adm. E.King a man I have no respect for, To think of what these men had to go through makes me sick, very sad time in history for the us.

When I was a child, I was curious about my father's interest in books and movies about WWII since he had little to say about his own service in the Navy. When I questioned him, Dad explained that his service in WWII was in no way comparable to the experiences of many others. And, with tears in his eyes, he related the story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis. The knowledge that anyone could have given so much so that I might be free has always weighed on my heart. It was on a recent trip to Florida that I came across a copy of a book written by Edgar Harrell and his son, David Harrell, entitled "Out of the Depths." I stopped many times while reading it to breathe, contemplate the agony, and wait for my eyes to dry and my nerves to settle. I was amazed to discover a reunion of these brave men would be held in a few days - 69 years after the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. I will be honored, on behalf of my father and myself, to thank these incredible men for their service to America.
