US Marine Private First Class John Thomas Peek was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, PFC Peek served our country until September 1st, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that John died from Encephalitis. His body was recovered. John was born on June 30th, 1948 in Concord, North Carolina. PFC Peek is on panel 45W, line 021 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
Lance Corporal John Thomas Peek, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Richard Moss, of Route 2, Concord, has died in South Vietnam, according to the Department of Defense. His death was listed among non-hostile fatalities. The word received by his parents, was that the young Marine died Sunday as a result of encephalitis. He attended Carver High School in Kannapolis, enlisted in the Marines in September 1967, completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. and arrived in South Vietnam on March 1968.
He was the son of the late Mr Richard L Peek and Mrs Minnie Thelma Kennedy Peek Moss, Route #2, Box 538, Concord, NC. Brother to Anne Louise Peek and the Late Mildred Diane Peek.
He served with the 11th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Amphibious Force.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
