I have determined that you are my 8th great-grandfather! What a surprise to us all. I studied all about you in school, never knowing you are my ancestor. What a distinguished life you led. Thank you for preserving New Amsterdam for all of us.

Despite your temper and failings you were a good governor, a brave man, and a loyal son of your country. We are still proud of you, and glad you came back here to stay.

Just a few days ago I walked through the few streets of what once was named New Amsterdam. Ashame really so little is left of it in this great city which always feels like my second hometown. This man was even willing to fight for it.

Governor Stuyvesant;
You have been one of my heros ever since I was a kid. The courage you showed at St. Martin and the integrity you displayed as governor-general truly exemplify what being an american is all about. Your famous peg-leg was a symbol of your military prowess and was a symbol of strength, not weakness.(By the way, it was a work of art as well. You deserved that fancy a replacement.)
America still needs Peter Stuyvesants. Thanks for your example and life.
