Obituary
It is with profound sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce that Sunday morning just as dawn broke, with her family by her side, our beautiful mom, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, auntie, niece and friend, Victoria Ann Ireland of Regina, SK died after a very courageous battle with leukemia.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Jennifer Wessner and granddaughter Brett; son Jayson Wessner; and daughter Charity (Junior) Bergen and grandsons Nolan, Colton and Gavin. She is also survived by her sisters Verna Ireland and Shannon (Paul) Steiner; brother Randy Ireland; sister-in-law Evelyn Ireland; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A very special thanks to her dear friends Sandy, Deb, Caron and Debbie who will all miss her terribly.
Victoria was predeceased by her mother Lillian Ireland (nee Berting) (1980); father Victor Ireland (1991); brother Rodger Ireland (1995); and precious granddaughter Alexandra Wessner (1993).
Victoria was born in Saskatoon, SK. She lived there most of her years growing up and always spoke fondly of growing up in Saskatoon. Her family moved to Swift Current where she graduated high school and worked as a nurses' aide at the Swift Current Union Hospital. Her children Jennifer and Jayson were born in Swift Current and in 1975 they moved to Regina in order to be closer to the medical care her son required. In 1977 Victoria received the most beautiful gift when daughter Charity was adopted. She spent countless hours advocating for special needs children and as a result became a founding member of Chip and Dale Housing.
Victoria worked for many years for the Credit Union Central in Regina until she took early retirement. During that time, she learned she had breast cancer, which she fought with dignity and ferocity and beat.
Not being able to sit still for too long, she took off to the West Coast and completed her training at the Justice Institute of B.C. in Negotiation, Mediation and Conflict Resolution. Wanting to be closer to her family, she returned to Regina and worked at various jobs until finding the perfect fit at the Regina Public School Board office, where she worked until her death.
Victoria loved to travel with the highlight being a trip to Scotland in 2008 when she visited the village of Rhynie where her father was born.
She was a Christopher Leadership leader, a prolific seamstress and an avid genealogist, but her favourite role was that of Grandma. Her four grandchildren were her true pride and joy and always brought a huge smile to her face.
The family would like to offer a very special thanks to Dr. Zarkovic and Dr. MacLeod, and to the nurses and staff of 3B and Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital.
A CELEBRATION OF VICTORIA'S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
