Biological Son of Henry Duff and Nancy Catharine Swallow (or Swallows). His birth record from the Washington County, Ohio Probate Court lists him as "Henry J. W. Swallow" and as "illegitimate". John Henry Duff's parentage is VERY complicated as his Mother, Nancy, had at least eight different children by eight different men!! The name of John's biological Father is found on his marriage certificate. In this way, it parallels his half-siblings marraige certificates. It is fairly certain, because of the number of fathers that Nancy had for her children, that John's own father, Henry, did not participate in raising his son to adulthood. In addition, Henry Duff, John's father, married twice and had legitimate children by each of the women to which he was married.

John's life, it seems, turned out to much more stable than that of his Mother's. John married Lydia Elizebeth West, Daughter of Ezra West and Melissa White on June 25, 1908 at Archer's Fork, Washington County, Ohio. John and Lydia had at least twelve children together and stayed married until John died in 1964.

1. OTTIMERE D. DUFF was born on June 29, 1909 in Dart Township, Washington County, Ohio. He died on November 18, 1984 in Washington County, Ohio. He married MARGARET J. KITTS on December 18,1929 in Washington County, Ohio, daughter of John L. Kitts and Harriett E. Carter. She was born on April 23, 1908 in Heslop, Ohio.

2. COLLIN DUFF was born on April 11, 1911 in Ohio. He died on October 18, 1993 in Stark County, Ohio.

3. GILBERT DUFF was born on March 24, 1913 in Ohio. He died on September 1, 2004 in Massillon Township, Stark County, Ohio. He married GRACE MAE HANLON. She was born on October 7, 1913 in Ohio. She died on March 17, 1980 in Dover Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

4. FIRD DUFF was born on May 7, 1915. He died on Decembr 19, 1971. He married GRACE L. MCCLEAD on November 8, 1944 in Marietta Township, Washington County, Ohio, daughter of John S. McClead and Ida Dell Enochs. She was born on September 21, 1925 in Ohio. She died after September 22, 2005.

5. NEWRINE D. DUFF was born on Febraury 8, 1917 in Washington County, Ohio. She died on February 12, 1994 in Zanesville Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. She married ANDREW HAROLD MCGILTON on March 19, 1937 in Saint Mary's Township, Pleasant County, West Virginia, son of McGilton and Hendricks. He was born on March 6, 1909 in Ohio. He died on January 8, 1999 in Muskingum County, Ohio.

6. EVERETT DUFF was born on April 27, 1919 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on April 27, 1919 in Washington County, Ohio (Stillborn).

7. DONALD DUFF was born sometime after January 24, 1920, the date of his parent's 1920's Census records. He died on 13 Jul 1928 in Washington County, Ohio. He is buried at Knob Hill/Point Pleasant Cemetery.

8. CLIFTON DUFF was born on Novmeber 17, 1920 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on October 17, 1974.

9. RUSSELL DUFF was born on April 10, 1923 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on June 10, 2001 in Stark County, Ohio.

10. PAULINE DUFF was born on August 16, 1927 in Dart Township, Washington County, Ohio. She died on May 22, 2012 in Ohio. She married ALBERT CARL BOSNER on April 21, 1948 in Washington County, Ohio, son of (unknown first name) Bosner and (unknown first name) Schneider. He was born on January 24, 1910 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on June 8, 1999 in Washington County, Ohio.

11. GEORGE J. DUFF was born in 1930 in Ohio. He married Willanelle Craig, Daughter of Dewey M. Craig and Ida Duart Thompkins. George was the Father of Timothy M. Duff.
