Mrs. Virginia H. Thomas, a well-known and life-long resident of Georgetown, died quite suddenly last evening about 11 o’clock, at her residence, 3207 P Street. Death was due to apoplexy and the fatal stroke came without warning. Mrs. Thomas appeared to be in her usual health yesterday, though she complained of nervousness. She retired about 10:30 o’clock and a few minutes afterward her youngest son was awakened by her calling for a glass of water. It was furnished her, but she could not drink. The other members of the family quickly assembled in the room and Dr. Shekell was sent for, but inside of ten minutes death resulted.
Mrs. Thomas was fifty-eight years of age and was a native of Georgetown. Her maiden name was Ellis and May 2, 1858 she was married to Mr. William E. Thomas, who still survives. She leaves a family of six children - three sons and three daughters, all of the latter and two of the sons being married. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from her late residence and the interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. Frank H. Barton, rector of St. John’s Church, corner of Potomac and O Streets.
