Born in New York City, Mel was raised in Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated Shattack Academy and was an Army veteran. He graduated from the University of Minnesota.
Mel was an amazing tenor and loved music. He also was a big baseball fan and coached Little League.
After a career with Northwest Airlines in Helena, Montana he relocated to the Fort Lauderdale area.
He was tragically killed when his car was struck by another in the eatly morning of May 13, 1965.
