Mary was the only child of Walter Gordon Clark and Mary Jackson. Her mother died of breast cancer when Willie Mae was 13 years old. Willie Mae died of pneumonia in Elm Mott, McLennan County, Texas 12 days short of her 20th birthday. Her State of Texas Death Certificate showed that she was single, at home and that her body was removed to Bardwell for burial. Her father W. G. Clark of Bardwell was the informant.

The reason why 19 year old single girl was living away from home is not known. The death certificate only shows "at home" for occupation. She was possibly living with relatives or attending school. The fact that her father had remarried after the death of her mother in 1934 may have had some impact on Willie Mae leaving home.

Her grave marker at the Bardwell Cemetery (Elm Branch) cannot be located and for now it is assumed that a permanent granite marked was never errected.
