May Thirtle was born on 22 May 1923 to Christine Bena and her husband George Robert Thirtle in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. She was an only child.
On 05 April 1941, May married Chester Stanley Alback in Papilion, Sarpy County, Nebraska. To this union was born one son, George H Alback on 15 May 1943.
George was tragically killed in a car-train accident on 25 April 1961 when he was less than 18 years old.
