ELEAZAR T. HERNANDEZ
Feb. 2, 1958 - Aug. 29, 2012

Brightwood resident Eleazar "Elias" T. Hernandez died Wednesday, Aug. 29. He was 54.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 2, at Sandy Funeral Home. Burial was at Cliffside Cemetery.

Elias was born Feb. 2, 1958, in Guanajuato, Mexico, to Manuel and Guadalupe Hernandez. He was raised in Guanajuato. He completed the third grade but stopped going to school and began working to help support his family. He resumed his education as an adult and took many classes. He passed the citizenship test the first time and became a U.S. citizen.

Elias moved to Oregon in 1979 at age 21 and settled in Sandy.

Elias held many jobs and worked for the local farms. He maintained three jobs at one time with Timberline Lodge, The Resort at The Mountain and with Jim Turin & Sons, with which he operated the asphalt roller for 26 years until his death.

On Dec. 13, 1980, he married Edilberta "Edie" Herrera in Guanajuato.

Elias was active in the Brightwood and Sandy communities. He attended St. Michael's and St. John's Catholic churches, participated in many clubs and organizations, and developed the Sandy Alcoholics Anonymous at the Sandy Vista apartments.

Elias took much pride in his home and property, working on them endlessly. He loved the woods and river that surround his home and enjoyed taking long walks with his family members and dogs Fatso and Howie. He loved being with his entire family, but most of all doting on his newly born grandson, Elias. He also enjoyed watching and participating in all sports including basketball, baseball, UFC fights, boxing and football; his favorite team was the New England Patriots.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Elias and Edward; daughter, Belinda; his parents; eight sisters; three brothers; and one grandson.

Memorial donations can be made to Elias' fund at Clackamas County Bank.

Sandy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
