She was born on Aug. 9, 1906, in Paris Ill., and had lived in the South Bend area since 1932, coming from Illinois. As Rachel Hobbs, she married George M. Barkley in 1932 in South Bend. He died in October 1947. Then in 1956, she married Horace Hamilton, who died in 1977.
Surviving are a son, Richard Barkley of Michigan City; tow step-daughters, Mrs. Winifred Fullmer of Niles and Mrs. Vera Stiffler of South Bend; a ste[-son, Dean Hamilton of Edwardsburg; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Pacot of Mansfield, Ohio; and a brother, Oscar Hobbs of San Marcos, Calif.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan, with Rev. Timothy Martaugh, pastor of South Side Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. She was a member of the church, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine, Amaranth, and the American Women’s Business Association. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Side Christian Church.
