William N. Mitchell, Company B, 2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry, Confederate States of America. The 2nd was formed in the fall of 1861 at Garysburg, NC. They were captured at the Battle of Roanoke Island, exchanged, then served from Gettysburg to Cold Harbor. They surrendered at the end of the war with 3 officers and 49 men. Mr. Mitchell appears to be one of the lucky few to make it through.
