Clara was the eigth and last child born to Miles Pease and Susan Mariah Metcalf. Her father founded the town of Richville, Douglas, Missouri in 1865. It started as a trading post for local pioneer families. Over the years it became a thriving community with a lumber mill, grist mill, cotton gin and community center where school-church-and other activities were held. The entire town was owned by Miles Pease.

Minerva married John King in 1877 in Missouri. Their first 3 children (Frank, Ida and Leota) were born in Douglas County, Missouri. Around 1894 the family moved to Texas and theiron
last 3 children (George, Minnie and Gladys) were all born in Texas.
