Walter E. Moon, the subject of this sketch, was born in Colfax, Iowa, (family records say Casey, Iowa) November 22nd 1884, and departed this life while working to break a big horse who hit a guy wire and reared up and went over backwards with Walter driving the saddle horn into his chest in Rosston, Oklahoma, June 11, 1915.
He was married to Miss Emma Pearl Eaton August 23rd, 1905. ( I believe that Emma was carrying his 3rd son born after Walter passed, grandma named that baby after grandpa, Walter Edward Moon.
He leaves a wife, two little boys, two brothers, and a sister to mourn for him.
Funeral services were conducted by the writer at the Woodman Hall in the presence of sympathizing friends. There were no relatives present except the immediate family as they were unable to get a message to them in time.
Mr. Moon was engaged in the livery business at Rosston, and made a specialty of breaking young horses.
He received injuries which caused his death, when a large horse which he was riding ran into a guy wire on a telephone pole, causing him to rear up and fall backwards, crushing Mr. Moon beneath the saddle. The accident occurred about 10 o'clock a.m. and he died about 5 o'clock p.m.
May God bless and comfort the bereaved family is my prayer. L. E. Gossett

Walter, in keeping up with the where abouts of his brother Loren, came out to the Cockrum Ranch and stayed for a short time. Later going back to the Arkansas River to work, he joined up with a government survey crew near Lamar, Colorado. Some place in the area he met and married Emma Pearl Eaton. They worked at various jobs near Springfield, Colorado and Kenton, Oklahoma. He filed on a homestead near Kenton, Oklahoma and entered into the freighting business between Clayton, New Mexico and Kenton, Oklahoma. Due to a severe flood, which washed away part of his place, he sold his homestead to Bill Hughes, a local rancher, and moved to Rosston, Oklahoma where he continued his freighting business between Buffalo, Oklahoma and Rosston for a short time. Later he built a livery stable in Rosston, maintaining extra teams and buggies to rent as well as breaking horses for other people. One of the broncs he was breaking struck a telephone pole guide wire going over backward and falling on him, crushing his chest June 11, 1915. He died from this accident and was buried at Gate, Oklahoma. When he died Pearl had two small boys, Howard and Loyd, and was expecting a third child in November. They had previously lost a daughter, Alice Viola, with diptheria who is buried at Gate, Oklahoma.
