Mr. William Bernard Gates, 74, of 194 Doe Trail Lane, passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006. He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the son of the late Arnold N. Gates and Margaret Eikmeyer Gates. Mr. Gates was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and had attended the American Bank Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. On August 1, 1970, he was married to June Chiodo Gates, who survives. Mr. Gates was retired from Charter I Bank in Cleveland, Ohio, as an escrow officer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a nephew, Jeff Gates and wife Anne of Painesville, Ohio, and a niece, Sharron Vitatonio and husband Gary of Wickliffe, Ohio. A brother, Arnie Gates of Willoughby, Ohio, preceded him in death. A visitation will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Funeral services with interment in the White Haven Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C. 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Gates.
