PROSPERITY - Anne Hendrix Barnes, 78, of 8969 Highway 76, Prosperity, widow of James H. Barnes, Sr., died Monday, August 13, 2012 in Columbia, SC . Born on January 21, 1934 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Harold B. and Edith Brooks Hendrix. She was a 1956 graduate of Newberry College. During her college years, she was a member of the Newberry College Singers. Anne was a retired first and second grade teacher having taught at Prosperity Elementary School. She was an active member of Wightman United Methodist Church where she enjoyed her membership in the Frances Asbury Sunday School Class, the Senior Joy Group and many years of singing in the Wightman Choir. Mrs. Barnes is survived by her daughter, Jeanne B. Riggs of Prosperity; her son and his wife, James "Jim" H. and Mary D. "Lou" Barnes, Jr. of Greenville; a brother, William B. "Bill" Hendrix of Blair; four grandchildren Kevin Riggs, Jamie Barnes, Megan Barnes and Betsy Barnes; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 PM Wednesday at Wightman United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Turner. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday at Wightman United Methodist Church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Memorials are suggested to Wightman United Methodist Church, Building Fund, P.O.
