ROCK SPRINGS Jeanette Elaine Samsel, 71, of Rock Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Laramie, she died following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Cheyenne, the daughter of Charlie and Myrtle Hostetler Vinzant. She attended schools in Laramie and graduated from Laramie High School with the class of 1957.
She married Frankie Wylanta Samsel on June 28, 1958, in Laramie. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1981.
Mrs. Samsel worked as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell until she retired in March 1981.
Her interests included gardening, collecting frogs, Artex and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, William Lawrence Samsel and wife Cathy of Rock Springs and John Wylanta Samsel and fiancée Tina Kerbs of Rock Springs; daughter, Luella M. Sweat and husband Michael of Rock Springs; four brothers, Allen Vinzant of San Diego, Vernon Vinzant of Casper, Dallas Vinzant of Lebanon, Mo., and Dale "Frog" Vinzant of San Diego; two sisters, Donalie Lebsack of Loveland, Colo., and Verona Bulthuis of Lebanon; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Friends may call until time of funeral services Saturday morning. Interment will follow at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rock Springs.
