Jean Drake, 80, Alameda, Calif., formerly of East Grand Forks, MN, died July 28, 1997, in Alameda.

Jean E. McDonald was born Dec. 22, 1916, the daughter of Roy and Laura McDonald, in Grand Forks. She grew up in East Grand Forks and Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School.

She married Thomas J. Heaton in the early 1940's, in Grand Forks. They moved to California.

She married Richard E. Drake. They lived in Alameda. She worked at the Oakland SPCA for 27 years.

She is survived by sons, Gary Heaton and Tom Heaton jr., both of Alameda, and Kenneth Heaton, Reno, Nev.; daughters, Sharon Metz, Danville, Calif., Linda Wood, Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Robin Pontiff, New Orleans; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy J., Alexandria, Va.; and a sister, Mideyn Fontaine, Minot.

Services : 1 p.m. Saturday in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church, East Grand Forks.

Burial: Nisbet Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
