Amelia Pavan left her earthly family and joined her Heavenly Father and family on Saturday, March 22, 2014. She was 87 years young. She passed peacefully at home with her adoring family at her side. Amelia was born March 18, 1927 in Reno, Nevada, to Antonio and Lucy Marcato. She was lovingly raised by her mother and stepfather August Quarisa, with her four younger brothers in Susanville, California. She graduated from Lassen High School in 1945. She married the love of her life, Corrado Pavan, on March 30, 1946. They made their home in Susanville, where they raised their family.
Following the death of her beloved husbank in 1983 and her mother in 1989, Amelia moved to be near her daughter and grandchildren in Redding. It was a challenging move after having lived so many years in Susanville, but she made the transition with grace and humor. She joined Redding Newcomers, where she med many wonderful friends and became involved in activities that filled her days and evenings. She lived a full and happy life.Amelia's life revolved around her
family, especially her grandchildren. She was the quintessential perfect grandmother, who taught her grandchildren how to cook, bake, sew, paint, decorate cakes, and any other endeavor in which they showed interest. Ravioli making at her home was multigenerational activity.
Amelia was multitalented artisan. She made porcelain dolls, ceramic art and carousel horses. She sewed, knitted, crocheted, mad jewelry, and mastered numerous crafts in her lifetime. She made dozens of elaborate wedding cakes and every birthday cake for family members for many years. She was a gourmet cook and delighted in cooking for her family, especially "her boys".
In 1991, Amelia started a project to benefit needy and homeless children at holiday time. She found friends to help and began her "bag project". With donated fabric, she and her friends made large colorful tote bags which she then stuffed with toiletries, clothes, blankets, school supplies, toys, books, and candy. The project grew and financial support was solicited from local organizations, businesses and individuals. She has stuffed over 100 bags every Christmas since then, which are distributed to children in the tri-counties area. It was a labor of love that filled her heart and home as she shipped throughout the year. In recent years, Amelia's project became a family affair as her granddaughters joined her efforts. They will continue in her honor, making Amelia's bags for kids.
Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, her Albino and Agostino, nephew "little Augie". and her beloved husband Corrado.
She is survived by her son Rev. Ben Pavan of Orangevale and his children Cory and Julia; her daughter Sandra Downing (Michael); her adored grandchildren Stephanie Terrill, Corinne Aberg (John), and Philip Cramer (Rachel); and her cherished great-granddaughter Ciara Kapaska, all of Redding. She is also survived by her loving brothers and sisters-in-law Primo and Della Quarisa of Reno, Danny and Marcie Quarisa of Poway, Glenda Quarisa of Susanville, Joyce Stock of Galt, and numerous nieces and nephews; her aunt, Rose Barbieri (Mario) of Reno, and many, many cousins.
A women of deep faith, Amelia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anderson.
Amelia was best duddy to many, family and friends alike, and her absence from this earth leves a huge void.
