Jimmie Lee Hicks, being rich in family, life, and love, went home to be fully in the presence of the Lord Jesus on July 31, 2012. Jimmie was born to Amy and Jim Mayfield on January 9th 1929 in Dubach, LA and attended church at an early age at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Jimmie was known for her strength and practicality, standing by her family through all the matters of life, including the passing of a daughter, Irma Harris. She married Grady Hicks, Sr. on March 4, 1950 and together they were blessed with 15 children and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With a large family, Jimmie's chosen occupation was the running of a household and the countless, often thankless work of instilling virtue in those she both served and kept in line.
Along with her down-to-earth practicality, Jimmie fostered a sly sense of humor and if you teased her too much, you would earn the "grannie salute" to end the exchange, especially with unruly sons-in-laws. Jimmie, along with her husband, Grady, showed hospitality to many strangers in need, teaching her children the value of caring for others and accepting people openly, no matter their background.
Jimmie is preceded from this life by her mother and father, several brothers and sisters, her husband, Grady, and her daughter Irma. She is survived by her sister, Mary "Chaney" Mayfield of Ruston, LA; 15 children, Ed and Lynsie Hicks, Mark and Marilyn Medsker, James Hicks, Doris Hicks all of Kennewick, WA; Robert and Arlene Crow, Russell and Darlene Mercer, Johnny Hicks all of Pasco, WA; Lester and Della Daniel of Mabton, WA; Manuel and Mary Hicks, LaVerne and Alicia Jones all of Prosser, WA; Grady Hicks, Jr. of Marysville, WA; Joe and Annie Wilson, of Ruston, LA; Sylvester and Kristy Hicks of St. Louis, MO; Neal and Judy Jones, Charlotte, NC; Charles and Brenda Hicks, of Augusta, GA; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Known affectionately as "Muh" or "Ma", Jimmie will be missed by everyone that knew her and remembered as the family matriarch that she is. Her wisdom and grace will live on in the lives of her children and their children for many generations. May the Lord Jesus count all those generations she has and will touch, and say, well done my good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.
