The two page article added to this memorial contains a factual error. Rev. Samuel Austin Worcester was NOT named for his paternal uncle, Rev. Samuel Worcester, but for Rev. Samuel Austin, the brother-in-law of Samuel Austin Worcester's father, Rev. Leonard Worcester. At the time of Samuel A. Worcester's birth, Rev. S. Austin was pastor of the Worcester, Mass. church that young Samuel A. Worcester's father was a Deacon. Rev. Leonard Worcester did not become a clergyman until 1800 with Rev. S. Austin preaching the ordination sermon of said Leonard Worcester as the first pastor of the Peacham, VT Cong. Church. The wife of Rev. S. Austin (Jerusha Hopkins) was the sister of Rev. Samuel Austin Worcester's mother, Elizabeth Hopkins.
