I ran across your story and of your fate and poems written during terrible times and they revealed to me a delicite splendid worshipper of life and it's beauty. A soft beacon of mezmerizing light, and then I noticed I had discovered this on the same day that you wrote it, December 9th. Not a coincidence I think, no I believe, and it makes me respect who you were in your heart as I felt it touched mine for a moment. You would not be turned into poisin by evil acts and your thoughts, spirit and words live on and grow. That is strenth and power that gives me goose bumps thinking about it. You were a light in the darkness Henry and must have been a welcomed friend to your associates. You did good. I feel more about you will surface and more will hear and learn and grow from it.

"Three Years After""Teach me to hate," I prayed — for I was young,And fear was in my heart, and faith had fled."Teach me to hate! for hate is strength," I said"A staff to lean on." Thus my challenge flungInto the thunder of the clouds that hungCloaking with terror all the days ahead –"Teach me to hate — the world I loved is dead;Who would survive must learn a savage tongue."And I have learned — and paid in days that ranTo bitter schooling. Love was lost in pains,Hunger replaced the beauty in life's plan,Honor and virtue vanished with the rainsAnd faith in God dissolved with faith in man.I have my hate! But nothing else remains.- Lt.Henry G. Lee

Prayer to Battle (To Mars)Before thine ancient altar, God of WarForlorn, afraid, alone, I kneel to pray. The gentle shepherd that I would adore, faced with thy blazing plaything, slips awayAnd I am drained of faith - alone, aloneWho now needs faith to face thine outthrust sword.Bereft of hope, turned pagan to the bone,I kneel to thee and hail thee as my lord. From such a god as thee I ask not life.My life is forfeited, the hour is late.Thou need not swerve the bullet, dull the knife.I ask for strength to ride the wave of fate. And one thing more - to validate this strifeAnd to my own sacrifice - teach me to hate.Henry G. Lee

It's the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It's the Soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.

** Thank You for Your Service ** Thank You for My Freedom **** ** Lost Heroes ** **Ocean bird, I wish to tell you **A story from a long time ago. **Oh ocean bird, I wish to tell you **A sad old song that you must know. ** **America, so many heroes **They left their homes and crossed the waves. **America, you sent your young boys **Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you **That sad old song? They came to save us! **America, so many heroes **They lost their lives and filled the graves. ** **America, we love your heroes **America, we are your friends **America, we'll always love you **And keep you in our hearts and hands. ** **America, so many heroes **They left their homes and crossed the waves **America you die of grief now **Oh ocean bird, how must I tell you **That sad new song? They are in pain now! **America we share your sorrow, **America, let hope remain… ** **Words by: Marjorie Rieu
