Services Held Here Monday For Mrs. J.L. Brown
Funeral services were held Monday, May 16, for Mrs. Evelyn Wingate Brown, 71, at 2:30 P.M. at the Maysville Christian Church. Mrs. Brown passed away Saturday at her home after a lengthy illness. Rev. Howard Prather of Richmond and Rev. Eugene Akeman officiated at the services. Miss Jeannie Sweiger sang "Whispering Hope", and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Earl Hubble. Pallbearers were: Norville G. Wingate, Calvin A. Connett, Ralph Moore, George Moore, James Moore, Carl Moore, and Judge Frank D. Moore, and Judge Frank D. Connett, Jr. Interment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Bram Funeral Home.

Evelyn Wingate Brown, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William T. Wingate, was born in DeKalb County, Missouri September 4, 1894. She was graduated from the Maysvile High School, Class of 1913, and later attended Christian College, Columbia, Missouri and the University of Missouri, where she belonged to the Chi Omega social sorority.
She was united in marriage to James Lelan Brown of Maysville on October 9, 1920 at the First Christian Church, St. Joseph, Missouri with the pastor, Dr. Charles Chilton officiating. To this union was born one son, James Wingate Brown.
Mrs. Brown became a member of the First Christian Church, Maysville in 1907. She was active in all phases of church work as long as her health permitted. She was church historian, and on July 12, 1964 Mrs. Brown was honored by being made a deaconess of the church. She was a charter member of Chapter DV, P.E.O. Sisterhood. She became a member of the Order of Eastern Star in 1912. She also belonged to the Major Molly Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Hamilton, Mo. and to the Sterling Price Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, St. Joseph, Mo.
During World War II Mrs. Brown was Chairman of the DeKalb County Red Cross Campaign, and was an organizer of the DeKalb County Library.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, son, and a sister, Mrs. W.A. Sharp
