Aviation Pioneer. He was a British engineer whom began his interest in early aviation by flying and manufacturing dirigible aircraft in 1897. In 1908, he formed The Short Brothers Company which became the first aircraft manufacturing company in the world. Contracted by the Wright Brothers, he built the British rights on the initial order for six aircraft of the Wright Flyer. In 1911, they built the world's first successful twin-engine aircraft the S-39.
