He moved his family to the new Broad River settlement in north Georgia in 1783. They had a large plantation in the fertile Goosepond area in what became Oglethorpe Co.; they adjoined Gen. George Matthews on the east. He weighed about 200 poundS at age 18; over 300 later in life.
