Harold E. Flynn, 77, of Fulton, Missouri, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his home. He was born on February 17, 1924 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois to the late Henry E. & Rachel (Crooks) Flynn. He married Jean Sommers on June 7, 1947. She survives at the home. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Flynn served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-46, most of this time spent in the European Theater on active duty. Upon his return, he attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, graduating in 1950. He began his coaching career in Barry, Illinois, where he coached high school baseball and basketball for four years.

In 1954, he accepted a position at Westminster College in Fulton as assistant basketball coach. He began coaching baseball in 1955, and for the next 30 years he coached over 600 games, the longest tenure of any Blue Jay coach to date. Mr. Flynn guided local Bake McBride from Westminster to the St. Louis Cardinals where McBride won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 1974.

During Mr. Flynn's career with Westminster he served as full professor, head basketball coach, head baseball coach and athletic director. He was active in the intramural program and became the first women's volleyball coach. He retired from Westminster College in 1991.

Memorial services are at the Debo Funeral Chapel in Fulton with the Rev. Raymond McCallister officiating.
