Dr. Cliff Bailey, 88, a retired dentist, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Winston County Nursing Home. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Childs and Mr. Charles Bond officiating. Interment is in Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada.
Dr. Bailey was born on Aug. 24, 1921, in Grenada where he lived most of his life. He completed pre-dental studies at Ole Miss and graduated from the Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago. While in Chicago he met and married his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, the former Fran O'Connor of Sioux City, Iowa. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army before returning to his hometown of Grenada to practice dentistry for the next 55 years. He loved golf, fishing, and the Ole Miss Rebels and was most blessed with a life rich in faith, family, and friends. One of the most recent special groups was "The Wrinkled Roosters" in Louisville. His quick wit endeared him to so many others. He was a devoted Christian, and his keen mind enabled him to continue the study of God's Word and the memorization of so much of it up until his death. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and served in many capacities, including chairman of the administrative board in Grenada.
Dr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Clifford Kavanaugh Bailey Sr., and Anabel Hall Bailey, and a sister, Isabel Bailey Early.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Bailey is survived by his children, Gloria Mason (Roger) of Louisville, Ford Bailey (Martha Lynn) of Madison, and Hall Bailey (Carole) of Jackson. He is also survived by a niece, Joy Gifford, of Oakland, Maine. He has nine grandchildren, Kelly Mason Joyner of Madison, Chris Mason of Grenada, Ryan Mason of Birmingham, Kevin Bailey of Madison, Meredith Bailey of Atlanta, Mallory Bailey of Madison, Brittany Bailey of Jackson, Blair Bailey of Jackson, and Connor Bailey of Jackson. His two surviving great-grandchildren are Mason and Jackson Joyner of Madison.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church in Louisville. Porter Funeral Home in Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
