The career of Fr. Louis Gregory Brown, CSP, paralleled closely that of his older brother Algernon. Born at Cobham in Surrey, England, on March 2, 1851, of Anglican parents, he became a convert to Catholicism after his brother, and came with him to America in 1871.

Two years later five Paulists gave a mission at the cathedral in Cincinnati, and the two brothers were attracted to the vocation of the Society, Algernon being already a priest of the Cincinnati Archdiocese. They entered the novitiate in the fall of 1873, and Louis was ordained on March 8, 1876.

Algernon died two years later, and Louis followed him in 1880, both of them dying at age 29 during Holy Week. At Louis' death the following record was set down in the Register of the Paulist Fathers:

"Always of a delicate constitution, he began to decline gradually after his brother's death which was a great shock to him. The cause of his death was pulmonary consumption. He was never able to perform the heavier labors of the priesthood, but so long as his strength permitted, he devoted himself most assiduously to the training of the Chorus and the direction of the Chant. In his last hours he was tranquil and resigned, and fulfilling all his Christian duties he peacefully closed his short and quiet life."

According to records in the Paulist Archives, Fr Louis Brown is buried in the Church of Saint Paul the Apostle in New York, but the precise location of his grave has not been determined.
