HOLT - Mary "Pete" Shewmake Ryan, age 95, of Holt, died Jan. 13, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rick Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Roy" Ryan; her parents, J.C. and Mary E. Shewmake; her sisters, Nellie Ralston, Clara Kilishek, Myrtle Robbins, and Anne McGavack; and her brothers, Paul Shewmake and Joseph Shewmake.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Earl Snyder (Robert), Hazel Ryan, and Peggy Jones (John); her grandchildren, Bobby Snyder (Sonya), Linda Clark (Tony), Wendy Martorana, Barry Snyder (Christy), Angie DuBose (John), Michael Jones, and Jennifer Tran Reno; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mary and her husband Roy were long-time residents of Holt. She was a devoted member of Holt Baptist Church. She was happiest when spending time with her family and serving others. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, dominoes, and the companionship of her loving sister-in-law Jennie Bell Ryan. In a true Christian spirit, she always put the needs of others above her own.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Snyder, Barry Snyder, Michael Jones, Tony Clark, John DuBose, Bradley Clark, and Johnathan Snyder.
Mary will be greatly missed by her family and also friends at Clara Verner and Heritage Health Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holt Baptist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
