Original Enlistment found to be 30 Oct 1849 at Chicago, IL. as a Private in the 1st Dragoons, Company F. He was discharged at Fort Union New Mexico 21 Oct 1854.
He reenlisted as a Private in the 2nd Dragoons, Company H, 27 Dec 1856 at Fort Union Depot. He was discharged as an Ordnance Private at Fort Carlisle Barracks, PA 29 Sept 1858.
He reenlisted in 1858 and remained with the Ordnance Department and the Quartermasters Department until after the Civil War. He was still employed by the US Army at the time of his death as a wheelwright at Fort Dodge, Kansas.

Listed as a citizen employed at the Q&M on Base in the Post Cemetery Interments Book. Listed on the military burial register number 145. Heart disease listed as cause of Death. He is also listed as a soldier in the Deaths of Enlisted Soldiers Book with the same cause of death and same death date.
