Edward attended college at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City. There he married Edith Mae Roberts. He next attended St. Louis University Medical School, and in 1924 a son was born, Edward A. McMurray, Jr. The family lived in Newton where he practiced medicine and was also the County Coroner.
Edward A. Sr. married second Elna Mae Kenner. They were married 61 years and had three children together. Dr. McMurray completed a residency and lived in Queens, New York, for a short while, and then returned to Newton to practice as an EENT (ear, eye, nose, and throat) doctor. They lived in New Sharon after retirement.
