Don was married on February 19, 1949 to the former Eunice Ullrich and they spent the next 59 years happily together. Mr. Thanepohn served his country proudly during World War II in the United States Army. Don was employed for nearly 60 years at Lyon Metal in Aurora, IL. He was a very active lifelong member of Cross Lutheran Church in Yorkville, IL. Don enjoyed working outdoors both on his home and yard. He will always be remembered for his hearty laugh, good natured ribbing of family and friends, love of his work, and his dedication to Cross Lutheran Church. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be missed by both family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Thanepohn of Oswego, IL; his daughters, Denise Thanepohn and her husband, Daniel Dieckgraff of Anchorage, AK and Suzanne Burson of Oswego, IL; his grandchildren, Private Jonathon Burson stationed at Fort Knox, KY, Michael Burson of Freeport, IL, Elsa, Krista, Collin and Claire Dieckgraff of Anchorage, AK; his brothers, Bud Thanepohn of Yorkville, IL and Dean (Marilyn) Thanepohn of Denver, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Helen Thanepohn.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Cross Lutheran Church, 8609 Rt. 47 in Yorkville, IL with Pastor Brian Truog, officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Yorkville, IL.
Friends may visit from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Cross Lutheran Church in Yorkville, IL.
