E. James Abdnor: Sir, you will be remembered asa Republican Senator from thestate of South Dakota.  A common, decent, plain spoken man,"he was affectionately known as "the people's Senator." His staff considered him to be a friend as well as an honorable mentor and public servant. Like his South Dakota Congressional colleague James Abourezk, he was a second-generation Lebanese-American. You were the 15th Administrator of the United States Small Business Administration under President Ronald Wilson Reagan. The Small Business Administration (SBA) is a United States government agency that provides support to entrepreneurs and small businesses. The mission of the Small Business Administration is "to maintain and strengthen the nation's economy by enabling the establishment and viability of small businesses and by assisting in the economic recovery of communities after disasters". The agency's activities are summarized as the "3 Cs" of capital, contracts and counseling. The Administrator of the Small Business Administration is the head of the Small Business Administration of the United StatesGovernment. Accessed 30 January 2009. President Obama announced in January 2012 that he would elevate the SBA into the Cabinet, a position it last held during the Clinton administration. Then-Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole praised Abdnor shortly before he took on the job in 1987, saying: "It is Jim's commitment and understanding of small-town America, of small businesses, its special needs and concerns, that makes his nomination so right." remembering you 2 years later, may you rest in peace!

"South Dakota has never had a harder working or more honest elected official than Jim Abdnor. More important, thousands of South Dakotans today lost a cherished friend who always saw the best in each of us. He will be greatly missed."

"Jim Abdnor loved South Dakota, and South Dakotans returned that love and respect with their support for his career of service. He touched all those who knew him in a very positive and caring way. His legacy will not be forgotten."
