Gerald Anthony Dupré was born June 12, 1926, in Sturbridge, MA, son of John Forrest Dupré and Eulalie Louise LeBoeuf of Sturbridge, MA. He was raised in Woonsocket, RI where he met his childhood friend and wife of 64 years, Laura Clarice Smith. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and survived the battle of Iwo Jima. He spent much of his life on Long Island, NY. He was a switchman for the Long Island Railroad. Most of his career was spent at Brookhaven National Laboratory where he worked on two particle accelerators as an operator on the Cosmotron, and a vacuum technician on the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron.
Jerry was a life-long ham radio operator with the call letters K2YYM, as well as a lifelong Red Sox fan.
He had one brother, Forrest Dupre of Ogden UT. He had five children, Laura Anne Theune of Anderson, SC, John and wife Cheryl of Rougemont, NC, Robert and wife Sue Ann of Lawrenceville, NJ, Denise and husband Stuart Thompson of Anderson SC, and Gerald and wife Francine of Holbrook, NY. He had fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Laura and Jerry's ashes were interred at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on April 13 at 2:30 p.m.
