SHERMAN NATIVE DIES IN ISLANDS, BURIED AT SEA
After a short illness of virus pneumonia, Victor Hugh Adamson, 41, native of Sherman and veteran of Coast Guard service in World War II, died at his home in Charlotte Amlie, St Thomas, Virgin Islands.
He was born in Sherman the son of Mrs. Gladys Elly Madden and the late Victor Adamson of Sherman and Denison, Texas.
He was a graduate from Sherman High School in 1929 and Austin College in 1933. He entered the Coast Guard service in May 1942 and was a graduate from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. He served in the Caribbean area and at the close of the war was a captain in charge of the port of St Thomas. He later retired from the service and he and Mrs. Adamson became permanent residents of the island.
Mr. Adamson had been in the importing business in St Thomas since he left the Coast Guard six years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marjorie Adamson of the home; his mother and stepfather John and Gladys Madden of Sherman; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Adamson Pack of Jacksonville, Illinois; paternal grandmother, Mrs. J.W. Adamson of Denison and three stepchildren.
By his own request and that of his wife, Mr. Adamson was buried at sea. At the same hour a memorial service was conducted by Rev. William Tate Young, rector of St Stephen's Episcopal Church, in Mrs. Madden residence.
