Lawrence (Larry) Fortson, Jr. was born February 4, 1949, in Calhoun Falls, SC, to the late Lawrence, Sr. and Mary Harper Fortson. He is the only child of this marriage and is the youngest child of both parents who had other children.

At the age of seven Larry and his parents moved to Buffalo, NY, where he received his formal education in the Buffalo, NY, Public School System.

Larry married Mary Lee Jackson, February 26, 1971, in Woodbridge, VA. No children were born to this union.

He and Mary Lee relocated to Monroe, LA in May 1973. He was baptized May 12, 1974 and became a member of the New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Elijah Brass, Sr.

In 1976, Larry went to work for U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 26 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his former wife, Mary J. Fortson, Monroe, LA, three brothers, James (Sarah) Harper, Calhoun Falls, SC; Perry (Claudine) Murray, Calhoun Falls, SC; and James (Barbara) Tenant, Denver, CO. Two sisters, Patricia Gray, Monroe, NC and Gloria Jean Scott, Houston, TX, three aunts Sarah Patterson (Calhoun Falls, SC), Ola Belle Fortson (Calhoun Falls, SC), and Bertha Fortson (Calhoun Falls, SC), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
