ELEANOR MARIE ASHBY (nee Lincoln) Zionsville, Indiana formerly Gary, Indiana Passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 in Zionsville, IN. Ellie, as she liked to be called, was the youngest of nine children of Edmund and Mary (Terry) Lincoln. Her father was a well-known attorney for many years in Cannelton and Gary, Indiana with his son Calvert J. Lincoln. Ellie was a 1940 graduate of Horace Mann High School, where she met her beloved husband, Harry L. Ashby. She was employed at the Gary Police Department as a stenographer in the Records Bureau under former mayor Ernst Schaible. During World War II, she was employed as a stenographer in the Research Lab at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio where her husband was stationed. Mrs. Ashby was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a volunteer in the gift shop at Gary Methodist Hospital, and served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts at Inland Manor Baptist Church in Miller, IN. She was also a member of the National Society of the DAR, in Hobart's Meshowke-To-Quah Chapter as a descendent of Captain Hananiah Lincoln and John Terry who both served during the Revolutionary War. Mrs. Ashby was a member of First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN for over 40 years and a member of the New Life Class Sunday School class. She was a member of the Sunshine Ladies and enjoyed reading poetry at the nursing homes the groups visited weekly. Survived by loving son: William Terry Ashby, Sr., daughter-in-law, Susan Ann; and two loving grandchildren, William Terry Ashby, Jr and Leeann Marie Ashby of Indianapolis. Preceded in death by loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Harry Lee Ashby (March 17, 1942 - September 17, 1996). Also preceded in death by beloved parents, Edmund S. and Mary (Terry) Lincoln, brothers, Calvert, Merle, Forrest, Earl, and sister Lola Kallbreier. Survived by sisters: Gen Haynes of Rhode Island, Joyce Frenzel of Valparaiso, and Ruth Clark of Portage; sisters-in-law: Betty (Ashby) Wood of Plainfield and Dorothy Ashby of Valparaiso. Funeral services will be Monday, May 22, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Rd., Hobart with Rev. Dr. Johnny Colsten officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana. Visitation is also on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the services begin at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
