Captain Charles Green Fleetwood, a well-known bar pilot of Savannah, was a member of a number of fraternal organizations, holding membership in Solomon's Lodge of Masons, Palestine Commandery, Knights Templar; the American Legion of Masters and Pilots. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a very respected pilot and had a large circle of friends.

Captain Fleetwood was a master pilot in Savannah for twenty-seven years. During World War I, he served as a lieutenant in the naval reserves.
Upon his death, the flag at the office of the Savannah Pilots' Association and those on the tug boats in the harbor were flown at half-mast in honor of Captain Fleetwood.
