Finland President. He served as President of Finland from 1956 to 1982. A central figure in the Finnish political scene from the 1930s, he has previously served as Prime Minister from 1950 to 1953, and from 1954 to 1956. He was also a prolific columnist, whose opinions influenced public discussion and political maneuvering. As a member of parliament, he represented the Agrarian Party (Maalaisliitto)-a natural political home for Kekkonen due to his rural background.
