CENTER —Center resident Ben Chavez, 96, passed away February 29, 2012 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Ben was born on May 10, 1915 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the son of Bernardino Chavez and Luz Mendoza Chavez. Ben was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and brother who enjoyed fishing, hunting, being a baseball fan and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Diane (Joe) Romero of Center, Colo.; sons Steve Chavez of Sheridan, Wyo.; Henry (Vangie) Chavez San Antonio, Texas; Jimmy (Elsie) Chavez of Taos, NM; Bernie (Patsy) Chavez of Sheridan, Wyo.; daughter-in-law Mabel Chavez of Center, Colo.; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, sister Maria Rodriguez of Wilcox, Ariz. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Bernardino and Luz Chavez, two sons Floyd and Elias Chavez, one daughter Ruth Gomez, three brothers Misel, Arturo and Rogelio Chavez, three sisters Beatrice Pacheco, Manuelita Hernandez and Corina Chavez.
A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Center Assembly of God Church in Center. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 10 a.m. also at the Center Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at the La Garita Assembly of God Cemetery in Center. Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday from 1-4 p.m. at the Center Assembly of God Church. Arrangements are in care of Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista
