Motion Picture Cinematographer. Born Richard Waite, he served as a photographer with the Intelligence Group of the US Air Force and later moved to New York where he established his own photography studio. The publications Vogue and Playboy to name a few were among his clients. On a whim to try a career in motion pictures, he embarked upon Hollywood and landed a position as a cameraman with a commercial production company. This led to his feature film debut "Day of the Wolves" (1971). Waite distinguished himself with a string of TV credits including "Tail Gunner Joe" (1977, earning him an Emmy Award nomination), "Captains and the Kings" (1977, for which he received an Emmy Award) and "The Life and Assassination of the Kingfish", receiving an Emmy Award nomination). His success was rewarded with better opportunities in feature films which included the credits "48 Hours" (1982), "Uncommon Valor" (1983), "Footloose" (1984), "Red Dawn" (1984), "Out for Justice" (1991) and "On Deadly Ground". He died from a heart attack.
