Grace was the daughter of the late Henry John and Dulcinea Elizabeth Swem Hickman. She was born in Maysville, Ky and moved with her family to Cincinnati as a child. She married Dr. Richard E. Dewey in 1905.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Catherine "Kate" Coates Hickman, Anna Herbert Hickman Golden, and Mary Russell "Marnie" Hickman Crandall, and by a step-granddaughter, Gladys Beebe Gilroy.

Surviving Grace are her husband, Dr. Richard E. Dewey, a stepson, Elbert Dewey; a brother, William Henry Hickman of Cincinnati, a half sister, Cora Virginia Hickman, also of Cincinnati, and her stepmother, Mary Jane Bowen Hickman.

Grace died from what her death notice referred to as a cerebral hemorrage. She was buried in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago.

In our family tree, Grace is my husband's maternal Great(2)Grand-Aunt.
