After moving from Pembroke, NH to Lowell, MA at a young age, P. R. Moore was a member of the Lowell Dramatic Society. In Mar of 1849, as part of the Roxbury Sagamore Company, he traveled on the Ship Sweden from Boston to San Francisco, taking the long journey around Cape Horn, as part of the Gold Rush. He later was involved in the incorporation of the Mint Drop Mining Company of El Dorado County in California.
